What is a Toi Toi (Toe Toe)?

The 'Toi Toi', or more correctly 'Toe Toe' is one of the truely iconic plants which is associated with New Zealand. Toi Toi's are indigenous to New Zealand, conisting of tall grasses which grow in tussocks up to 2-3 metres in height, somewhat similar to south american pampas grass. The Toi toi reed possesses evergreen leaves with a mass of feathery flowers at the tip of sturdy flower stalks, termed 'kakaho' in maori, and which grow substantially higher than the plant leaves.

Toi Toi do not require pollination to spread, and therefore are highly adaptable, having the ability to spread across areas easily.

Within Maori society, the major use of Toe Toe, was its incorporation within building interior decorative wall panels. The leaves were sometimes used for weaving mats and baskets, however the sharp 'cutting' edges of the leaves had to be removed first.

Today, its main use is for interior decoration. When used decoratively, the feathery flowers and associated stems are dried and used to adorn arrangements. If nearby Toi Toi flowering stems are often played with by 'Kiwi' children, forming one of the classic things Kiwi's do

The Toi Toi Room, along with The Pipi Room are the newest editions to Hobsonville House Bed and Breakfast. The bed configuration can be tailored to suit guests needs,

The interior design has been styled by Anne who is enthusiastic to blend the exciting pacifica theme within a modern contemporary look and amenity.

  
   
     

The Toi Toi Room's Beds.

The Toi Toi Room bed configuration is flexible, providing for either two King Single Beds, or alternatively an enormous Californian Super King bed for total luxury.

The room is generally made up as a twin room so a days notice is required at the time of booking, to transform it to the total decadance that is the Californian Super King.

Ultimate comfort and pleasing design are a feature of the Toi Toi Bed and Breakfast room at Hobsonville House.

Ammenities in Toi Toi Room.

• The Toi Toi Room has a 32" HD high definition television located for easily viewing within the room, with full 'Freeview' channels.

• For guests convenience, tea and coffee facilities are provided.

• A writing desk provides an area for B & B guests to use their laptop computers, to work privately, or fill in some post cards.

• WIFI facilities are provided free for all guests.
   

A Unique Bed & Breakfast Room

The Toi Toi room has beds styled for comfort, and supplied with quality linen and manchester. Bedside tables, writing desk and lowboy draws/bagsit have all been designed by Anne and manufactured in Vanuatu under Annes supervision from quality island Rosewood. Paintings have been commissioned by local New Zealand artists

The newly added Ensuite Bathroom follows the modern contemporary aspect which forms a theme through all the ensuite bathrooms st Hobsonville House. The combined use of modern concepts in tiling, complimented by designer glass panels and doors ensures a pleasing decor and up to date ammenities.
