As a part of a major upgrade of the Auckland transport system, the Auckland Ring road is nearing completion, which includes the latest section of motorway joining West Auckland with the North Shore of Auckland (State Highway 18). This has drastically improved the mobility around Auckland, and has a major intersection within easy reach of Hobsonville House Bed and Breakfast.

The upgrade not only provides quick and easy access to Auckland City, but also fast and simple routes to many great attractions and popular destinations just outside Auckland.

Aucklands Main Motorway Systems - A Brief Description.

The Main Auckland Motorway system is relatively simple to navigate and is formed around the major motorway route, consisting of the Southern/Northern Motorways (State Highway 1) which extends in one continuous link through Auckland from its Southern and Northern Extremities.

There our five(5) main Motorway sysems now operating in Auckland :

• Auckland Southern Motorway (State Highway 1).
• Auckland Northern Motorway (State Highway 1).
• Auckland North Western Motorway (State Highway 16).
• Auckland Airport-Mangere Motorway (State Highway 20), which also connects to the Auckland Southern Motorway.
• Auckland Upper Harbour Distribution Motorway (State Highway 18), which connects The Northern and the North Western Motorways

The first three systems converge to the centre of Auckland and meet at what is affectionately termed "spaghetti junction", where the three become interconnected and numerous distribution feeders diverge outwards to the various suburbs of Auckland. The interconnections between these Auckland motorways are well "sign posted" and traversing from one to the other is a simple matter. The Auckland North Western Motorway ( State Highway 16) has presently ben completed up to Kumeu.

The newly opened Airport-Mangere Motorway (State Highway 20), along with the Auckland Upper Highway provides ( State Highway 18), in conjunction with the former three, an oblong Ring motorway system around Auckland. The Airport-Mangere motorway functions by providing a Airport connection from the Southern motorway right through to the medium point of the North Western Motorway. Unfortunately at the moment the final leg is yet to be completed and it presently ends around Mount Roskill.

The Upper Harbour Highway (State Highway 18) is a major addition to the Auckland Motorway Network and connects the upper point of the Northwestern Motorway at Westgate, through to the Northern Morthway at Albany. This provides a valuable transport distribution across this region and cuts down travelling times immensely around this region. A number of on-off junctions are within easy reach of Hobsonville House.

Directions to Hobsonville House B&B - Travelling by Car.

TRAVELLING FROM SOUTH OF AUCKLAND, TO HOBSONVILLE HOUSE.

Travellers coming from the south of Auckland, will invariably find themselves on the Southern Motorway which forms a part of State Highway 1, the Main Highway spanning the length of New Zealand. Continuing to Auckland Central and 'Spaghetti Junction', travellers take the left hand offramp onto the North Western motorway (State Highway 16) which may be sign posted as "Waitakere/ Helensville/ Kumeu".

Travel 20km from Auckland City Central on the North Western motorway, heading to Waitakere/ Helensville/ Kumeu. Turn off's after the causeway (after Pt Chev turnoff) include Partiki Rd/ Rosebank Rd, Te Atatu, Lincoln Rd, Royal Rd, and Westgate.

At Westgate the motorway has three options, the far left excites at Westgate, the centre left curves around to the right and heads East toward the North Shore ( state highway 18), and the right lanes continue on to Kumeu ( state highway 16).

Take the "East - North Shore" Turnoff ( state Hwy 18 - Upper Harbour Highway) which is also called Exit 19B, and travelling approximately 3km is the "Brighams Creek Turnoff "( Exit 9). Take this turnoff and follow a series of three roundabouts to Hobsonville Road. Turn left onto Hobsonville Rd, and we are approximately 500m along on your right.

Alternative Route from South of Auckland.

Alternatively, when travelling from the South, travellers can also get to Hobsonville House by continuing onto the Northern Motorway from the Southern ( North Shore), going over the Auckland Harbour Bridge and directly up the Northern Motorway (State Highway 1). Take the "East - North Shore" Turnoff ( state Hwy 18 - Upper Harbour Highway) which is also called Exit 19B, and travelling approximately 3km is the "Brighams Creek Turnoff "( Exit 9). Take this turnoff and follow a series of three roundabouts to Hobsonville Road. Turn left onto Hobsonville Rd, and we are approximately 500m along on your right.

TRAVELLING FROM NORTH OF AUCKLAND, TO HOBSONVILLE HOUSE.

Travellers coming down from North Auckland along State Highway1, will end up on the Northern Motorway. Just past Albany, take the Upper Harbour exit, which may be sign posted as "Waitakere/ Helensville/ Kumeu"(State Highway 18) or Constellation Drive. Turning right, carry along the Upper Harbour Highway, crossing over the Upper Harbour Bridge intothe Hobsonville area . Continuing, you will pass under a very visible yellow perdestrian bridge. Take the Brighams Creek off ramp and follow a series of three roundabouts to Hobsonville Road. Turn left onto Hobsonville Rd, and we are approximately 500m along on your right.

TRAVELLING FROM AUCKLAND INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, TO HOBSONVILLE HOUSE.

Travellers arriving from Auckland International Airport should get onto State Higghway 20B, which connects onto the Southern Auckland Motorway at Manukau. Turning left onto the Southern Motorway, travellers should follow the directions as for 'Travelling from the South of Auckland'.

Alternative Route from South of Auckland.

The New Airport-Mangere Highway when compleleted will allow travellers to get onto the new State Highway 20 and travel directly onto the North Western motorway, and hence directly into Hobsonville. However, at present, this motorway ends within Mt Roskill. Fig 4 below shows the normal route used by drivers at present. It is to be noted that at peak hour this can be time consuming.
